About Brown Mackie College
Founded in 1984 as the National Electronics Institute (NEI), this campus joined the Brown Mackie family in 2004. Like all campuses of Brown Mackie, College, the Canton campus is known for having small class sizes, flexible scheduling, and career-oriented training that offers individualized attention and instruction.
Overall, the school adopts a “change-oriented” approach to education, meaning that they keep their resources and courses up-to-date with current industry standards. As such, they prepare students for entry-level positions in a variety of fields.
The combined campuses of Brown Mackie College generally see about 700 students per year, each with unique situations and schedules. As a result, class schedules are designed to fit around a variety of lifestyles.
Evening classes, part-time options, and off-campus courses allow students to balance their work lives, family lives, and their pursuit of higher education.
About the Practical Nursing Program (LPN)
Although the school offers Associate degrees in select fields, the Practical Nursing course is a certificate program. It prepares graduates to take the Licensed Practical Nursing exam.
Coursework includes academic instruction and clinical experience in a variety of nursing arenas, including surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, and medical administration. General education courses include biology and behavioral science, including anatomy, physiology, and critical thinking. The entire course lasts 76 credit hours.
Accreditation
This particular campus of Brown Mackie is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association (NCA). In addition the Canton campus is licensed to grant the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree by the Kansas Board of Regents.
Faculty
All faculty members are chosen for their professional experience and their commitment to traditional academics. They bring in the real-world work applications of their respective fields and contacts within the business community to give students a better edge when it comes time to move from the educational setting to post-graduation employment. Faculty members may either operate as full-time educators or part-time adjunct instructors – both of which offer out-of-class hours for additional support.
Facilities
The Canton campus of Brown Mackie College is located in a brand new 50,000-square-foot facility. The facility also contains a computer lab, a library, and a bookstore. Practical nursing students also benefit from the medical, occupational, and physical therapy labs contained within the building.
Financial Aid
Financial aid in the form of federal grants and loans, private loans, and work-study are available through the financial aid department at Brown Mackie to those who qualify. All accepted students are encouraged to meet with the school's financial aid professionals to walk through the process of identifying and filling out applications for student aid. Most options are limited, so students are encouraged to apply early and fill out the requisite FAFSA forms within state guidelines.
