About the Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide Pre-Certification (CNA, HHA)
Nurses’ aides work in a variety of settings: doctors’ offices, hospitals, nursing homes, and more. They are an integral part of the health care team, performing such duties as feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves, preparing food trays, bathing and dressing patients, measuring and recording vital signs, and repositioning bed-ridden patients.
In clinics, public health agencies, and acute care hospitals, they are also responsible for helping nurses and doctors examine and treat outpatients, making appointments, processing documents, and explaining instructions to patients and families. Four D prepares students to enter the nurses’ aide field by providing training in fundamentals of patient care and affording them the opportunity to practice hands on nursing care.
The CNA and HHA program lasts for eight weeks or 250 hours. Eighty-eight hours are spent in classroom instruction, and the remaining hours are devoted to clinical supervision. Also offered are classes in CPR certification, preparation for the state test, resume preparation, and job placement and interviewing skills. Applicants must be at least 17 years old, pass an entrance exam, and complete an application.
About the Vocational Nursing Program
Like nurses’ assistants, licensed vocational nurses work in a variety of settings performing a variety of patient-related duties. LVN's (also called LPN's) can perform much the same duties as a registered nurse (RN) but must be supervised by a doctor or RN. Four D boasts an award-winning LVN program.
Time is spent in classrooms, receiving direct instruction, and students also have ample time to work in actual nursing situations under supervision. These hands-on experiences are invaluable for helping nurses learn and also to get employment after completing the program. The program is broken into theory and clinical hours. Students spend 604 hours learning health care theory and 960 hours in clinical situations.
The Vocational Nursing Program is offered as a full time course, which lasts for 12 months, and a part time course that covers the same content in 18 months. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
About the Medical Assistant Program
Medical assistants, too, have a host of work place choices. This is a versatile and fast-growing occupation. Students who successfully complete Four D’s Medical Assistant Program have a great job outlook. Medical assistants perform clinical and administrative tasks to keep health practitioners’ offices running smoothly.
Four D’s program trains students in office duties, such as taking medical histories and vital signs, taking laboratory specimens, performing basic lab tests on premises, explaining procedures to patients, preparing patients for exams, and sterilizing equipment and exam rooms. The Medical Assistant Program is offered as an eight month course for day and afternoon classes or as a 10.5 month evening course.
Applicants must be at least 17 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, pass an entrance exam, and complete an application.

The Nurses’ Assistant (CNA) Program is approved by the Department of Health Services and Licensing Division and by the Bureau for Private Post Secondary and Vocational Education.
The Vocational Nursing Program is accredited by the State of California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians; the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), and approved by the Board for Private Post Secondary and Vocational Education.
The Medical Assistant Program is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and approved by the Bureau for Private Post Secondary and Vocational Education.
Faculty and Facilities
The faculty of Four D is committed to teaching students critical thinking skills and help them make informed decisions. The focus is on helping students learn to think for themselves so they can be successful and independent members of the health care field. Learning is expected to be active, and the faculty serve as facilitators to student learning and exploration. This is enormously beneficial to students in preparing them for real life work experience.
Four D offers an on-campus library system, day care services, employment and placement services, remedial services, and counseling. The college doesn’t offer on-campus housing, but Colton is a large suburb with ample housing opportunities for students.
Financial Aid
Four D accepts federal and state financial aid, including Stafford Loans, Pell Grants, and work study programs. Enrolled students can also apply for the Walter Russ Sr. Scholarship offered by the college. Other education loans are encouraged.
