About Concorde Career Institute
Concorde Career Institute is a private school that provides career training in allied healthcare careers. It was founded in 1988, and now has twelve campuses in seven states. Their mission is to “deliver quality training that will provide employment opportunities for our graduates and enable our graduates to seek career opportunities.”
Concorde emphasizes hands on training. One of the strengths of their Practical nursing program is that much of the instruction occurs in supervised clinical situations. This is a one-year program that prepares you to take the NCLEX-PN exam and apply for a license as a licensed vocational/practical nurse.
About the Practical Nursing Program
Practical nurses provide care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. They practice in most healthcare settings, including acute care, long term care, home health and clinics. Practical nursing practice is based on concepts from the biological, physical and behavioral sciences.
Practical nurses utilize the nursing process to assess clients, contribute information for the RN’s nursing diagnosis, plan, provide and evaluate nursing care. They work in all nursing specialties, including ob-gyn, medical-surgical nursing, emergency care, critical care, pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health nursing and home health. Practical nurses are an important member of the health care team.
At Concorde, you will gain Practical nursing skills in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings. By the time you graduate, you will be well prepared for employment as a Licensed Vocational or Practical Nurse.
After graduation, Concorde continues to assist you in your career development by helping you develop a resume, coaching you for interviews and providing career-long placement services.
Each state has its own Nurse Practice Law, which defines the role of Vocational or Practical nurses in that state. You must be licensed in the state in which you work. Most states have reciprocity with each other, which makes it easy to transfer your license from one state to another.
About the Medical Assisting Program
As a medical assistant, you will be an integral part of the healthcare delivery team. In this position, you are considered a "multi-tasked" provider. This means you will be trained and qualified in both clinical and administrative capabilities.
Medical assistants work closely with doctors in clinics and physicians' offices. You will be entrusted with a variety of critical responsibilities.
Administrative skills and responsibilities include scheduling and receiving patients, preparing and maintaining medical records, performing basic secretarial skills and medical transcription, handling telephone calls and written correspondence, serving as a liaison between physicians and other individuals and managing practice finances.
Clinical responsibilities include taking patient histories and vital signs, performing first aid and CPR, preparing patients for procedures, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, infection control, collecting and processing specimens, performing selected diagnostic tests and preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician.
Concorde Career Institute is fully accredited by several well recognized accreditation institutions, including the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education, the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
Concorde Career Institute participates in all federal student aid programs, including Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), Stafford Loan Programs, Perkins Loans, and Plus Loan Programs (for parents).
Concorde’s financial aid office is available to help you find alternative ways to pay for your education. It all begins by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Forms are available at our financial aid office and at most libraries, or on the internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Financial Aid is only available to those who qualify.
