About American Career College
American Career College was established in 1978 under the name American College of Optics and became the American Career College (ACC) in 1993 to service an ever-growing curriculum and student body.
ACC provides expert technical training for students wishing to enter the workforce, change careers or upgrade their training. With their qualified instructors, modern facilities and employer driven curriculum, ACC gives their students a tremendous advantage in obtaining top quality employment after graduation by offering an extensive career planning service for their students.
Students planning to attend ACC must be over 18 and possess a HS diploma or GED equivalent. In order to be admitted to the program, students must complete both an application form and a personal interview session with a college representative. Students must visit the campus before they are allowed to enroll in the program itself. Nursing students must also take the Nursing Entrance Exam (NET) prior to admission.
About the Practical / Vocational Nursing Program
With the increasing demand for qualified LVN's or Licensed Vocational Nurses, ACC provides a solution for both employer and student by giving the student top quality instruction and career placement assistance. LVN's provide an essential service in patient care as they administrate medications, provide surgical care, community emergency nursing, pediatric nursing, nutritional counseling, geriatric care, oncology care and clinical care.
The Practical / Vocational Nursing Program at ACC is a ten-month program. After graduation, students are ready to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which ensures they meet the standards of the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Once certified, they are able to gain entry-level positions in hospitals (in-patient and out-patient), clinics, home health and extended care facilities.
In this program, students learn about such things as anatomy and physiology, medical surgical nursing, newborn and child care, pharmacology and infectious diseases. Students graduate with a certificate of completion instead of an associate degree. All of the courses in this program are specifically focused on nursing related skills. General studies courses like history and geography are not offered in this program. No online courses are offered. All classes are held on campus.
Accreditation
The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredits American Career College.
