About West Coast University

Nursing Student Los Angeles

In 2005, WCU became only the second private postsecondary school in California to be granted an RN program by the Board of Registered Nursing.  WCU is dedicated to providing the best possible education for adult students who are interested in becoming professionals in the health care field.

WCU provides training for careers that are in demand so students can find employment and make meaningful contributions to their communities.  WCU led the way in the 1950’s in developing bachelor’s degree programs for working adults and continues to be a leader in nursing education.

About the LVN to RN Bridge/AS Nursing Program

This program allows licensed vocational nurses (LVN) to get an associates’ degree in nursing.  In only four semesters, LVN's will be eligible to take the state licensing exam.  On passing the exam, they are registered nurses (RN). Being an RN increases the number of duties nurses are allowed to perform, and that makes them imminently hirable.  Earning an associates’ degree in nursing allows students to advance their careers, make more money, and open up new job opportunities.

The LVN to RN course requires students to complete 73 credit units in general education, science, and specialized nursing occupation courses.  Students receive classroom instruction in nursing techniques, medical/surgical nursing, leadership, management, and current nursing issues.  In addition, students participate in labs which asses their skill and provide hands-on experiences.  Students learn all the skills and knowledge necessary to care for patients in a wide variety of settings with a wide variety of needs.

Applicants who wish to be in the LVN to RN Bridge course must be accepted into the program.

About the RN to BSN Program

The RN to BSN program allows RN's to take their careers to the next level.  Classes are conveniently scheduled to accommodate for nurses’ busy schedules, and each topic is taught in ten week blocks so that they can focus on fewer classes at one time.  Students are given the option of earning clinical hours towards their California Public Health Certificate.

The RN to BSN course covers topics such as nutrition, epidemiology, issues and trends in nursing, disaster management, public health nursing, medical ethics and issues, and improving nursing practice.  A BSN allows nurses to assume leadership and supervisory positions, as well as to explore options in nursing science and research.  More career options and higher salaries are benefits that nurses with BSN's encounter.
