Their mission is to “deliver quality training that will provide employment opportunities for our graduates and enable our graduates to seek career opportunities”.
Concorde emphasizes hands on training. This is especially evident at our Memphis campus, where we offer degrees in Medical Assisting, Patient Care Assisting, and Surgery Technology.
About the Medical Assistant Program
As a Medical Assistant, you will be an integral part of the health care delivery team. In this position, you are considered a "multi-tasked" provider. This means you will be trained and qualified in both clinical and administrative capacities. Additionally, Medical Assistants work closely with doctors in clinics and physician's offices.
The clinical responsibilities include taking patient histories and vital signs, performing first aid and CPR, preparing patients for procedures, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, infection control, collecting and processing specimens, performing selected diagnostic tests, and preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician.
About the Patient Care Assisting Program
As a Patient Care Assistant, you will work closely with doctors and other medical professionals in administering therapeutic programs and monitoring the condition of your patients.
The responsibilities of a Patient Care Assistant include monitoring patients for changes in condition and recording and reporting those changes, setting up and operating therapeutic equipment, instructing and supervising patients about rehabilitative therapy, helping to carry out planned patient care programs, and assisting medical staff in changing dressings and conducting patient examinations.
About the Surgery Technology Program
As an entry-level Surgical Technologist, you perform essential tasks before, during and after operations. You work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other key surgical personnel in hospital operating rooms and outpatient surgery centers. Surgical Technologists play a critical role in surgical patient care.
There are three major roles for entry-level surgical technologists - scrub, circulating assistant and second assisting.
The scrub surgical technologist in the scrub role handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. They maintain a sterile environment and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
The surgical technologist in the circulating assistant role obtains additional instruments, supplies, and equipment while the surgical procedure is in progress. Monitors operating room conditions and assesses the needs of the surgical team in order to provide safe patient care.
The surgical technologist in the second assisting role assists the surgeon and/or the surgeon's first assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out technical tasks other than cutting, clamping, or suturing of tissue.
