About Concorde Career Institute

Nursing School PortlandConcorde Career Institute is a private school that provides career training in allied healthcare careers. It was founded in 1988, and now has twelve campuses in seven states. Their mission is to “deliver quality training that will provide employment opportunities for our graduates and enable our graduates to seek career opportunities.”

Concorde emphasizes hands on training. One of the strengths of their Practical nursing program is that much of the instruction occurs in supervised clinical situations. This is a one-year program that prepares you to take the NCLEX-PN exam and apply for a license as a licensed vocational/practical nurse.

About the Practical Nursing Program

Practical nurses provide care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. They practice in most healthcare settings, including acute care, long term care, home health and clinics. Practical nursing practice is based on concepts from the biological, physical and behavioral sciences.

Practical nurses utilize the nursing process to assess clients, contribute information for the RN’s nursing diagnosis, plan, provide and evaluate nursing care. They work in all nursing specialties, including ob-gyn, medical-surgical nursing, emergency care, critical care, pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health nursing and home health. Practical nurses are an important member of the health care team.

At Concorde, you will gain Practical nursing skills in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings. By the time you graduate, you will be well prepared for employment as a Licensed Vocational or Practical Nurse.

After graduation, Concorde continues to assist you in your career development by helping you develop a resume, coaching you for interviews and providing career-long placement services.

Each state has its own Nurse Practice Law, which defines the role of Vocational or Practical nurses in that state. You must be licensed in the state in which you work. Most states have reciprocity with each other, which makes it easy to transfer your license from one state to another.

Going to School in Portland

PortlandIncorporated in 1851, Portland is a city located near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers in the U.S. state of Oregon. It's warm summers and rainy but temperate winters make it an ideal location for growing roses, and for more than a century Portland has been known as "The City of Roses".

With 28 breweries inside the city, Portland is well-known for its microbrewery beer. In fact, Portland is often said to be the home of the microbrew revolution in the United States.  In addition to good drink, Portland was also deemed by the Food Network as a "Delicious Destination of the Year: A rising city with a fast-growing food scene" for 2007.

While there's no shortage of good food and drink, there's also an abundance of greenspace inside the city. Forest Park is among the largest wilderness parks within city limits in the United States, covering over 5,000 acres. Another noteworthy park is Mt. Tabor Park, which was built on an extinct volcanoe, and is known for its scenic views and historic reservoirs.

The Trailblazers (NBA) call Portland home, and running is a major sport in the metropolitan area, which hosts the Portland Marathon and much of the Hood to Coast Relay (the world's largest such event). The proximity of Mount Hood also make skiing and snowboarding are also highly popular.

With a wide-array of activities for every taste, Portland is a great place to live, work and go to nursing school!
