Going to School in Reseda
Originally inhabited by Native Americans of the Tongva tribe that lived close to the Los Angeles River, the area now known as Reseda was first named "Marian", after Marian Otis Chandler, who was the daughter of Los Angeles Times publisher Harrison Gray Otis. Around 1920, Reseda (named after a fragrant North African yellow-dye plant) replaced Marian, and became a designated stop on the Pacific Electric interurban railway.
Reseda is no stranger to fame, as a number of movies and songs all have referenced or taken place in town. The Karate Kid, Erin Brokovich and Terminator 2: Judgment Day all feature scenes from Reseda, and artists such as Tom Petty and Soul Coughing have all mentioned Reseda in their lyrics.
From the business and cultural centers of Reseda Boulevard and Sherman Way, to attractions such as the large duck pond that lies inside Reseda Park, Reseda is a place where you'll build memories to last a lifetime!
