About Santa Barbara Business College

We are experiencing an explosion in growth of our aging population, and that makes vocational nursing a high demand profession.  Qualified vocational nurses provide vital support to doctors, patients and health care facilities.

nursing schools santa barbaraSanta Barbara Business College (SBBC), founded in 1888, provides an excellent opportunity for applicants to take advantage of this growing trend by giving their students a steady and in depth education by expert instructors.

This quality approach prepares graduates for entry-level positions in hospitals (in-patient and out-patient), clinics, long-term health care facilities and home care.

Applicants must meet with an admissions representative, and those applicants without high school diplomas are required to take the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test  (WBST).  Nursing students are required to complete the Nursing Entrance Test (NET) before admission.

About the Vocational Nursing Program

With the increasing shortage of nurses in the medical profession, SBBC provides a necessary service in filling this ever-widening gap in medical service provision.  LVNs give critical support in administering medication, monitoring patient health and assisting in planning patient care and patient treatments.

The LVN program at SBBC is a 60-week course designed to ready the student for certification.  After graduation, the student is able to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), the passing of which is required for licensing in the state of California.  Upon certification, the LVN will have the necessary knowledge and skills to enter the health care industry and provide the essential support required of their position.

Throughout the sixty weeks required for this diploma, students will take a number of courses to help prepare them for the world of vocational nursing. Course work includes: Foundational medical terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Nursing ethics, and the Legal implications of a nursing career.

Students are also required to take specialized courses to help further their knowledge for specific career opportunities. These specialized classes include the areas of Newborn-pediatric care, Medical-surgical terminology and care, and Geriatric nursing care.
