About Santa Barbara Business College
Santa Barbara Business College (SBBC), founded in 1888, provides an excellent opportunity for applicants to take advantage of this growing trend by giving their students a steady and in depth education by expert instructors. This quality approach prepares graduates for entry-level positions in hospitals (in-patient and out-patient), clinics, long-term health care facilities and home care.
Applicants must meet with an admissions representative, and those applicants without high school diplomas are required to take the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST). Nursing students are required to complete the Nursing Entrance Test (NET) before admission.
About Medical Assisting Program
The Medical Assisting program at Santa Barbara Business College can prepare you for an exciting career in the medical field. General duties of a Medical Assistant include preparing patients for treatment, assisting physicians with treatment, preparing and sterilizing instruments, and front office management. Medical Assisting students will also learn how to operate EKG equipment, in addition to medical office courses.
A strong emphasis is placed on document coding, insurance forms and medical terminology. The medical assisting graduate will be qualified for employment in a medical office, clinic, hospital or insurance billing office. Graduates will qualify and are strongly encouraged to sit for a national certification test to become Registered Medical Assistants.

The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools accredits Santa Barbara Business College to award diplomas and Associate of Academic Science degrees.
Facilities
Santa Barbara Business College's second campus, the Santa Maria facility opened in July of 1980, in order to better serve northern Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo County residents. Located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Santa Maria is a growing community with diverse job opportunities.
Financial Aid
In order to receive financial aid, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen with either a high school diploma, a GED, or a passing score on an independently administered examination approved by the department of education. They must also have enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program and possess a valid social security number (SSN). Please note that the applicant must not be in default of a student loan or owe a refund on a Federal Pell Grant.
Once meeting these requirements, the applicant may apply for such financial aids as Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Cal Grant C, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, and the Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students and Institutional Scholarships.
Students may also apply, if they are eligible, to the Veterans Education Benefits, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Employee Tuition Reimbursement, JTPA, and other organizations and agencies providing scholarships and grants.

The largest city in Santa Barbara County, Santa Maria is located in the heart of California's Central Coast. Nestled in the foothills of Santa Barbara County wine country.
