Miami-Jacobs Career College has ties to the educational community that extend back to the 1860s, transforming over the years to incorporate the newest demands of the local business community. As an actual technical training institution, it has a much more recent history, and it wasn't until around 2000 that it began to expand its curriculum and open several different facilities throughout Ohio.
The school's mission is to "develop a competent and educated workforce for career positions in demand." To this end, the school continually updates its programs and curriculum to meet the needs of the current marketplace.
The focus of all of its programs is to get students access to the information they need the most to be successful in their chosen careers – not on general educational requirements typical in degree-based schools.

Practical Nursing - Diploma
Students of the Practical Nursing program are prepared to begin their careers as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN's). The coursework focuses on all the different aspects of nursing, from patient care to critical thinking skills. Students cover a range of different learning techniques, including traditional lecture-based classrooms as well as clinicals.
It is in the clinicals that students really get their hands-on learning, providing basic care to patients, taking vital signs, and performing routine procedures. As with all nursing programs in the United States, students are required to pass the NCLEX-PN exam before becoming licensed to work as LPN's. Students are not guaranteed a passing score, but test preparation is stressed in the curriculum.
