About Medical Careers Institute
Medical Careers Institute is part of the School of Health Science at ECPI College of Technology. MCI is a small, student and employer oriented, private school that provides fast-track education for people who want healthcare careers.
Classes at MCI are small so that students receive individual attention from their instructors. Instructors interact with students inside and outside of class and are available for individual advising, academic assistance and tutoring.
Flexible scheduling options are available so that adult learners can attend school while working and maintaining busy family schedules. Some classes are available online.
About the Practical Nursing Program
The Practical Nursing program prepares students to function as members of the healthcare team under the supervision of RN's or physicians. You learn to deliver care to clients and families using the nursing process.
In addition to the theory and practice of nursing across the life span, you learn about ethical decision making, critical thinking, legal aspects of healthcare, personal accountability and professionalism.
After graduation, you can take the NCLEX-PN exam and apply for licensure as an LPN. You’ll be ready to function competently in entry-level positions in hospitals, long term care facilities and other health care settings.
About the RN to BSN Program
Designed for Registered Nurses who hold an Associate's degree or diploma in nursing (in addition to a current Virginia license to practice), the RN to BSN program can be completed in as little as one year. Combining on-campus and online training, this curriculum is designed to work around the busy working schedule of existing RN's.
In addition to learning how to lead and manage, coursework includes problem solving and critical thinking skills, the incorporation of trends and issues into practice, promoting safe and healthy environments, and the application of ethical and legal concepts to current practices.
Upon graduations, students of the RN to BSN program at Medical Careers Institute will be well prepared to seek leadership and management positions in a variety of health care environments.
About the Registered Nursing Program
You can earn an Associate of Applied Science in Health Care with a major in Registered Nursing at MCI in as little as 15 months. This program equips you to provide direct patient care and to direct and coordinate care by other members of the health care team.
You learn how to care for people across the life span through the spectrum of health care from preventative care through health maintenance, promotion and restoration. You gain a solid theoretical foundation for nursing care and learn how to apply that theory in your clinical practice. Upon graduation, you can take the NCLEX-RN exam and apply for licensure as an RN. RN’s are employed in all healthcare settings and clinical areas.
MCI is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the Virginia State Council on Higher Education. The Nursing Programs are approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
Faculty and Facilities
MCI’s faculty members are selected for their industry experience, education and professional expertise. You learn from men and women who practice nursing and have extensive clinical experience as well as academic credentials. Faculty are also selected for their ability to interact with, support and encourage students.
Nursing has both academic and clinical components; you learn in the classroom, learning labs and clinical settings. MCI’s classrooms and learning labs utilize up-to-date technology similar to what you will find in clinical settings. In addition to brick and mortar facilities, MCI has an extensive online library and learning resource center.
Students who desire financial aid should complete a FAFSA and contact the financial aid department. MCI participates in several financial aid programs, including Federal Student Aid, State Student Aid, Veterans Administration program, Tuition Assistance Loan Program (TASL), Virginia Vocational Rehabilitation, Military education programs, JPTA and Dislocated Worker programs, and various Scholarship programs.
